Steve’s take

Lake Cable is the closest real lake community to Canton. The big thing: buying the house doesn’t make you a member. Call the association office about the property before you make an offer.

Membership comes after closing, and it isn’t automatic

Boats, docks and the clubhouse

Boats max out at 24 feet and 9.9 hp. Pontoons, fishing boats, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and sailboats are common. Waterfront owners have private docks, and off-water members can rent docks from the association. Members get a 15,000-square-foot clubhouse, a sand beach with lifeguards, a pavilion and 15 acres of common areas. The lake was built in the early 1920s by brothers Dueber and Austin Cable.
