Steve’s take

I grew up next to Tappan Lake as a kid. It’s a 399 hp lake, so it’s busy and fast in summer. That’s great if you want to ski and tube. Not great if you want quiet.

Owning at Tappan: the MWCD lease

Homes on MWCD cottage sites sit on leased land. You own the house and lease the lot from the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD).

Life at the lake

Tappan Lake Park has a swimming beach, a bike pump track, trails connecting to the Tappan Wetlands wildlife area, kayak and paddleboard rentals, and a camp store. The full-service marina sits across the lake off US 250, with seasonal docking, boat rentals and ethanol-free fuel. Park entry is $5 per single-occupant vehicle or $10 with passengers, Memorial Day to Labor Day.
